The sequel's starting premise
The official launch announcement says Colonial Marines respond to a distress signal and face Xenomorphs, Synthetics and rogue bioweapon threats. That is the confirmed foundation of the sequel without adding mission-specific spoilers.
GamesRadar reports a 15-mission campaign taking approximately eight to ten hours. Those scale estimates are attributed review findings and do not establish exact mission names, objectives or a guaranteed completion time.
Newcomers do not need the first game
GamesRadar says playing the first Aliens: Fireteam Elite is not required to follow the sequel's story or mechanics. A new player can therefore start with Fireteam Elite 2 instead of treating the original campaign as mandatory preparation.
That finding addresses accessibility, not every possible reference or returning element. Players who enjoy broader context may still choose the first game, but newcomers can start directly with the sequel.
How to check character and progression transfer
No character, save-file, inventory or progression migration process is currently documented for Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2. Start with a new Marine unless the live game presents an account-transfer or import option.
Story accessibility and save transfer are separate. The sequel title and returning co-op format do not move an old inventory; look for an explicit migration screen or account instruction before expecting carryover.
What progression is confirmed inside the sequel
Fireteam Elite 2 has five starting classes plus a customizable Specialist endgame class. T-Pose Games reports that Specialist combines abilities, perks and weapons unlocked through the other classes, making progression within the sequel relevant to later customization.
Weapon Traits and Augments also unlock through weapon progression, while attachments modify weapon statistics. These are confirmed sequel systems, but they do not provide evidence that old-game unlocks are imported into them.
